Ontario is supporting adults with developmental disabilities in the Cambridge area to ensure they get the supports and services they need closer to home.
A new Christian Horizons residence opened today near Branchton, replacing the original residence, which was destroyed by fire in January 2015. The new 4,800 square foot facility is fully accessible and will house six adults with complex support needs. Residents will begin moving into the newly completed home this month.
"The reopening of Christian Horizons in Branchton is great news for our community. I’m thrilled to see Ontario’s investment help create a safe and comfortable residence that six people with developmental disabilities will now call home," said Kathryn McGarry, MPP for Cambridge
Developmental service agencies like Christian Horizons offer a wide range of supports for people with developmental disabilities, depending on their needs. This includes providing people with an accessible, safe and comfortable home in their community.
" Christian Horizons is very grateful for the ministry’s investment supporting the rebuild of this home. Six people with developmental disabilities will soon move into a new home of their own, a place in the community where they can belong. We commend the government on their continued support for adults with developmental disabilities in the province," said Janet Noel-Annable, CEO, Christian Horizons
Investing in residential care for people with developmental disabilities is part of the government's plan to support care, create opportunity and make life more affordable during this period of rapid economic change. The plan includes free prescription drugs for everyone under 25, and 65 or over, through the biggest expansion of medicare in a generation, free tuition for hundreds of thousands of students, a higher minimum wage and better working conditions, and free preschool child care from 2 ½ to kindergarten.
